Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® Classroom

The CAPM classroom course is based on the Project Management Institute's, 'A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK® Guide) – Seventh Edition, Project Management Institute, Inc., 7th Edition'.

About the course

This course will provide students with sufficient knowledge and understanding to work as an informed member of a project team, and will help prepare participants for the CAPM examination.

 

Duration

This is an intensive three-day classroom course. There is some pre-course work that must be completed prior to attending the classroom, and evening work for the duration of the course.

All aspects of the course must be completed in order to receive your course completion certificate. This includes daily course attendance and full completion of the online pre-course and post course exam simulator.

At the conclusion of the course students will be able to:

Project Management fundamentals and core concepts

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the various project life cycles and processes.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of project management planning.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of project roles and responsibilities.
  • Determine how to follow and execute planned strategies or frameworks (e.g., communication, risks, etc.).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of common problem-solving tools and techniques.

Predictive, plan-based methodologies

  • Explain when it is appropriate to use a predictive, plan-based approach.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of a project management plan schedule.
  • Determine how to document project controls of predictive, plan based projects.

Agile frameworks/Methodologies

  • Explain when it is appropriate to use an adaptive approach.
  • Determine how to plan project iterations.

Business analysis frameworks

  • Demonstrate an understanding of business analysis (BA) roles and responsibilities.

​Exam format

  • 150 multiple-choice questions. Of the 150 questions, 15 are considered pretest questions. Pretest questions do not affect the score and are used in examinations as an effective and legitimate way to test the validity of future examination questions. All questions are placed throughout the examination randomly
  • Three hour duration

To maintain your CAPM, you must retake the exam every five years.

This qualification is for those delegates who are looking to start or add project management skills into their current role, or for those who want to manage larger projects and gain more responsibility.

 

The CAPM exam is not included with this course.

You have to apply to the Project Management Institute (PMI)® before you can sit the exam. There’s a strict protocol as they have to authenticate that the pre-requisite criteria has been met prior to exam attendance. In order to understand the PMI process we recommend you review the CAPM handbook on the PMI website.

Pre-requisites

To apply for the CAPM examination, you need to have:

  • Have a secondary degree, such as a high school diploma, GED (general educational development), or global equivalent
  • Have at least 23 contact hours of project management education completed before the exam 

Pre-course

Important information regarding this course:

There is mandatory online pre-course work that must be undertaken prior to attending this course. It is expected that it will take approximately four to six hours to complete. You will be sent full instructions with a link to the online pre course within 48 hours of your confirmed booking.

In addition, whilst attending your course there will also be some evening work and a post course exam simulator.

All aspects of the course must be completed in order to receive your course completion certificate. This includes daily course attendance and full completion of the online pre-course and post course exam simulator.
