Learn essential skills
Course overview

Our course teaches experienced Oracle professionals the skills and confidence to support complex Oracle RAC environments. Guided by expert instructors, you’ll use structured, scenario-based live lab exercises that bring core principles to life and help you apply RAC and ASM techniques in a practical, real-world context.

Build your expertise in Oracle RAC and Grid Infrastructure

Explore how Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Grid Infrastructure work together to support high-availability, multi-instance database environments. You'll follow a clear, structured path to mastering the deployment and management of Oracle RAC databases using Oracle 18c across enterprise-grade systems.

Learning objectives
  • Set up Oracle Grid Infrastructure to support clustered environments
  • Create and manage RAC-enabled databases
  • Administer ASM storage solutions for resilience and scale
  • Tune RAC performance and monitor cluster health
  • Configure workload management and service distribution
  • Implement backup and recovery across nodes
  • Troubleshoot Clusterware and RAC configuration issues
  • Work confidently with RAC One Node and multitenant features

What you’ll learn

Over five days, this course will equip you with the technical skills required to install, configure and administer RAC and Grid Infrastructure. With a strong focus on real-world application, you’ll deepen your understanding of Oracle’s clustered architecture and improve your ability to maintain stability, scalability and performance in production systems.

Oracle RAC architecture and components

Build a strong understanding of Oracle RAC architecture and its core components, including Clusterware, ASM and shared storage. You’ll learn how each layer supports scalability and resilience in enterprise environments. Giving you a solid foundation to confidently design, implement and manage Oracle RAC systems that are aligned to business performance and continuity goals.

Workload management and high availability

Explore how to configure Oracle RAC services for balanced workload distribution and high availability. You’ll learn how to manage failover, use connection load balancing, and implement Fast Application Notification (FAN). These skills will ensure your RAC databases remain responsive, reliable and resilient under varying workloads or unexpected disruptions.

Performance and monitoring

Gain the expertise to monitor, analyse and optimise Oracle RAC performance. You’ll use Enterprise Manager, cache fusion metrics and RAC-specific V$ views to assess interconnect traffic, resource usage and cluster health. You’ll also be able to interpret AWR and Statspack reports and apply tuning techniques that keep your RAC environment efficient, scalable and responsive.

Backup and recovery

Learn essential backup and recovery techniques for Oracle RAC using RMAN. You’ll configure the Fast Recovery Area, run parallel backups and recover from node failures or full system loss. Equipping you with the skills to plan and implement reliable disaster recovery strategies that protect your Oracle RAC databases and minimise downtime.

What’s included

FAQs

This Oracle Database 18c RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration course teaches you to install, configure and manage Oracle 18c RAC and Grid Infrastructure, gaining practical skills to support high-availability, clustered database environments.

Is this course suitable if I’ve only worked with single-instance Oracle databases?

Yes, the course is ideal for Oracle DBAs transitioning from single-instance to clustered environments. You’ll build foundational knowledge of RAC architecture and learn how to install, configure and maintain multi-node database systems using Oracle Grid Infrastructure and ASM.

Does this course include practical fault resolution exercises?

Yes. The course includes troubleshooting labs simulating real-world issues like voting disk failures, OCR corruption and node evictions. You’ll use Oracle cluster tools and logs to diagnose and resolve problems, helping you build confidence in managing faults and reducing downtime in enterprise RAC environments.

What’s the difference between policy-managed and admin-managed databases in RAC?

You’ll learn how Oracle RAC supports both policy-managed and admin-managed configurations, including their architectural differences and typical use cases. Through practical labs, you’ll create and manage both types, gaining the knowledge to select the right model for your organisation’s availability, scalability and workload needs.

Can I take this course if I haven’t used Oracle RAC before?

Absolutely. While prior Oracle DBA experience is essential, you don’t need existing RAC knowledge. The course introduces RAC architecture step by step, helping you build confidence as you progress from basic setup to advanced cluster management.

Will I learn how to upgrade or patch RAC environments?

Yes, the course covers essential upgrade and patching techniques for Oracle RAC. You’ll explore how to apply rolling patches, extend clusters and manage Oracle software versions, ensuring you’re equipped to maintain system stability with minimal disruption.
