What you’ll learn

Develop the skills to manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (RHEL 8) administration with confidence. Through immersive exercises, you’ll work with security, storage, networking, automation, and more, gaining the practical expertise to handle complex system administration tasks effectively.

Storage & LVM

Understand how to manage data storage by partitioning disks, creating and maintaining file systems, and encrypting partitions using LUKS. You’ll gain the ability to manage swap space and learn the full cycle of working with Logical Volume Management (LVM), from creating and resizing to removing logical volumes. This section builds a robust foundation for administering scalable and flexible storage solutions in enterprise environments.

Automation & scheduling

Learn how to automate Red Hat installations using Kickstart files, covering everything from pre- and post-installation scripts to performing installations over NFS, FTP, and HTTP. You’ll learn how to schedule recurring and one-time tasks using cron, at and anacron, ensuring consistent system setups and efficient task execution. These skills are crucial for managing large environments and supporting business continuity.

Virtualisation & containers

This module takes you from the fundamentals of Linux virtualisation to confidently managing KVM virtual machines in real-world environments. You’ll use both graphical and command-line tools to create, configure, and control virtual systems, before exploring containerisation with Podman and Buildah. By combining these skills, you’ll be well-prepared to work effectively in modern cloud-native and DevOps settings, where flexibility and scalability are essential.

Troubleshooting

Develop the competence to respond effectively when systems fail. From addressing boot problems and managing GRUB configurations to operating in rescue environments, you’ll learn recovery methods for high-pressure situations such as a lost root password. The focus is on diagnosing issues methodically and restoring systems quickly – essential skills for any Linux administrator responsible for keeping critical environments running.
