Learn essential skills
Course overview

Develop your Red Hat Enterprise Linux capabilities in this live virtual classroom course. Extending your knowledge from our Part 1 training, you’ll move beyond basic administration and develop the skills needed to build stronger system security, improve efficiency through automation, support modern application deployment, and troubleshoot confidently.

Take your Linux administration skills to the next level

This extensive five-day course sharpens your ability to manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 in real-world environments. You’ll deepen your expertise in key areas like storage, scripting, automation, and system security, ensuring you can manage and secure enterprise Linux environments.

Learning objectives
  • Edit and script files using vim
  • Automate system setup with Kickstart
  • Manage SELinux and access control policies
  • Configure logical volumes and Stratis storage
  • Set up SSH and firewalld for secure access
  • Deploy services with Apache, Samba and NFS
  • Work with containers using Podman
  • Write reusable shell scripts

What you'll learn

Master essential Red Hat administration techniques. Throughout this course, you’ll learn how to configure secure services, automate processes, manage containers, and fine-tune system performance. Each module is designed to develop your job-ready expertise and reinforce your ability to manage enterprise-grade Linux systems.

Efficient text editing with Vim

Develop confident, efficient workflows using the vim editor, a core tool for Linux system administrators. You’ll work with multiple editing modes, advanced navigation, registers, macros, and search techniques to handle configuration files quickly and accurately. The course also covers diff tools, environment customisation, persistent settings, and optimising vim for daily administration and scripting tasks across enterprise systems.

Advanced storage management

Build a strong understanding of modern Linux storage architecture. You’ll create and manage partitions, volume groups, and logical volumes using LVM, extend storage without downtime, and configure encrypted devices with LUKS. The course also introduces Stratis for layered storage management and covers swap configuration, helping you design scalable, secure and resilient storage solutions.

System protection with SELinux

Gain practical experience using SELinux to protect Red Hat systems. You’ll analyse access denials, interpret audit logs, and apply temporary and permanent policy changes. You’ll also explore important aspects, such as managing contexts, booleans, ports, and custom policy modules, as well as relabelling files and integrating SELinux with services such as Apache and Samba to maintain secure system operation.

Kickstart automation

Reduce manual effort and improve consistency by automating Red Hat installations with Kickstart. You’ll create complete unattended installation files, define pre- and post-install scripts, and configure installation servers using NFS, FTP, or Apache. This course supports rapid system deployment and repeatable builds across business environments.

Shell scripting skills

Develop practical scripting skills to automate routine administration tasks. You’ll write and execute shell scripts using variables, positional parameters, conditionals, and loops. The course focuses on creating maintainable scripts that support system management, reduce repetition, and improve reliability in day-to-day Linux administration.

System recovery and troubleshooting

Develop a structured approach to diagnosing and resolving system issues. You’ll explore the Linux boot process, use rescue environments, and recover from common problems such as failed boots, damaged bootloaders, and lost root passwords. This course strengthens your ability to troubleshoot under pressure using systemd tools and proven recovery techniques.
