Building trust in project teams: practical steps for psychological safety

Following our first webinar ‘Building psychologically safe project teams: The vital role of leadership’, this session takes the conversation further by focusing on trust, leadership behaviour and the situations that can stop people from speaking openly at work.

We will explore Amy Edmondson’s work on psychological safety, alongside McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y, to look at how leadership assumptions can shape trust, behaviour and team culture.

This will be an interactive session, using short workplace scenarios to explore what happens when psychological safety is missing or weakened. You will also be invited to share ideas, reflect on how people may feel in these situations and discuss what leaders can do differently.

The aim is to help you leave with practical ideas that you can use within your workplace and your teams, and to show that you are not alone in the challenges you may be facing.

What you’ll learn

  • Why trust is central to psychological safety
  • How leadership assumptions can affect team culture
  • What Amy Edmondson’s research means in practice
  • How McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y relate to management style
  • How to recognise when psychological safety may be missing
  • Practical ways to encourage more open and honest conversations

Who is the webinar for?

This webinar is for project managers, PMO leads, delivery teams, people managers, HR and L&D professionals, and anyone involved in team performance, culture or wellbeing.

It will be especially useful if you work in high-pressure project environments, lead teams through change or want people to feel safer speaking up, raising concerns and working through challenges together.
