Learn essential skills
Course overview

Gain practical experience configuring, monitoring and resolving issues across TCP/IP networks in a Red Hat Linux environment. This interactive course is designed for system administrators who want to build confidence working with network protocols, tools and commands in real-world scenarios.

Master networking with Red Hat systems

Strengthen your understanding of Red Hat networking. This hands-on course helps you develop the skills for configuring and diagnosing networks in a Red Hat Linux environment — ideal for those looking to deepen their technical awareness and apply TCP/IP concepts with confidence.

Learning objectives
  • Identify and work with network hardware and topologies in Red Hat
  • Set up and manage IPv4 and IPv6 network addressing
  • Break down and apply subnetting across address ranges
  • Capture and examine network traffic with tcpdump and Wireshark
  • Configure and monitor network interfaces on Red Hat systems
  • Conduct host, port and network scans for diagnostics
  • Examine key application protocols including DNS, SSH and FTP
  • Detect and resolve common network faults and disruptions
  • Understand static routes and core routing protocols
  • Use Wireshark filters to analyse and troubleshoot traffic

What’s included

Gain a solid foundation in Linux-based networking by working directly with Red Hat systems. Explore TCP/IP design principles, understand addressing and routing, and learn to diagnose issues using tcpdump and Wireshark in real-world scenarios.

IPv6 and routing

As IPv4 addresses become scarce, understanding IPv6 is essential. This session covers address structure, allocation, and configuration on Red Hat systems. You'll explore auto-configuration with SLAAC and DHCPv6, compare it to manual setup, and learn to filter IPv6 traffic in Wireshark. It also introduces routing principles, including static routes, default gateways and dynamic protocols — critical for supporting or transitioning to dual-stack network environments.

Network tools & commands

This session focuses on key command-line and graphical tools for managing and diagnosing Red Hat networks. You’ll use utilities like ip, netstat, ss, ping and traceroute to inspect interfaces, monitor traffic and trace routes. Exercises also include Network Manager, nmap and netcat for configuring connections, scanning ports and testing availability. These tools are essential for troubleshooting, validating changes and improving system security.

Application layer protocols

Explore the key protocols that support end-user services in networked environments. You’ll cover SSH, DNS, and DHCP, along with NTP and PTP for time synchronisation, and protocols like HTTP, FTP, SMTP and SNMP for web, file transfer, email and monitoring. The session also looks at configuring and testing these protocols on Red Hat systems, including Remote Procedure Calls and systemd sockets — ensuring you're confident managing and troubleshooting core services.

What’s included
  • Two-day live virtual classroom training
  • Real-time practice using live Red Hat environments
  • Course materials for post-course reference
  • Direct support from Red Hat-experienced trainers

Key facts

Ideal for

Linux system administrators and network professionals who manage or troubleshoot Red Hat environments.

Prerequisites

A basic grasp of operating systems is recommended. Prior experience with Linux or Unix is also helpful, but not essential.

Learning experience

Our experienced trainers and interactive labs create a focused, practical environment – so you can put theory into practice from day one.

FAQs

This course gives professionals the knowledge to configure, manage and troubleshoot TCP/IP networks in Red Hat environments using essential tools and techniques.

Does the course align with any Red Hat certification?

While not a certification course, it provides strong foundational skills aligned with Red Hat administration and networking practices that support further certification study.

How are OSI and TCP/IP models explained?

You’ll gain clear insights into how the OSI and TCP/IP models compare, including how data flows between layers and which protocols operate at each level.

Will I understand protocols like DNS, DHCP, and SSH?

Yes. You’ll explore a broad range of application layer protocols, how they operate, and how to configure and troubleshoot them within a Red Hat environment.

Are there exercises to practise using Red Hat network commands?

Yes. Each session features practical live labs designed to reinforce learning through real-world application. You’ll work directly with Red Hat network commands such as ip, netstat, ss, ping and traceroute to inspect interfaces, test connectivity and analyse traffic. These exercises help you build confidence using the command line to configure, monitor and troubleshoot Linux networks effectively.

Can I take this course if I’ve only used Windows before?

Yes. While Linux experience is helpful, the course starts with the basics and includes guided support for learners who are new to Red Hat systems.
