Course overview

If you’re ready to deepen your expertise in Oracle RAC and Grid Infrastructure, this five-day, hands-on course will equip you with the skills to design, implement and maintain clustered database environments. Guided by experienced Oracle instructors, you’ll work through real-world scenarios that prepare you for both production challenges and advanced certification goals.

Develop robust and scalable Oracle RAC environments

This focused five-day, tutor-led course will give you the practical knowledge and skills for setting up and managing Oracle RAC in a Grid Infrastructure setup. With plenty of practical exercises in our live labs, you’ll learn how to keep your databases running smoothly and make the most of your cluster’s performance.

Learning objectives
  • Set up Oracle Grid Infrastructure
  • Build and configure RAC databases
  • Manage shared storage using ASM
  • Set up and run RAC services
  • Monitor and improve database performance
  • Back up and recover RAC databases
  • Fix common issues in Clusterware setups
  • Work with multitenant databases in RAC

What you’ll learn

Through immersive live lab sessions, you’ll gain valuable experience in building and managing Oracle RAC environments from beginning to end. You’ll practise configuring Grid Infrastructure, creating and administering RAC databases, managing clustered storage with ASM, and applying performance tuning techniques. You’ll be confident in keeping multi-node systems highly available and optimised for demanding workloads.

High availability and workload services

Learn how to keep your applications running smoothly, even if one of your RAC nodes goes offline. We’ll show you how to set up services that automatically spread the workload and switch connections if there’s a problem. You’ll use tools like srvctl and Oracle Net to manage your setup, so it’s flexible, fast and reliable. By the end of the course, you’ll know how to keep performance steady and downtime to a minimum.

Backup, recovery and tuning

We’ll guide you through how to back up and recover RAC databases using Oracle RMAN. You’ll have access to detailed practice opportunities setting up recovery areas, managing redo threads and restoring a database if something goes wrong. We’ll also explore tools like AWR and ASH to help you spot performance issues and tune your RAC system so it runs efficiently and keeps pace with demand.

Clusterware and troubleshooting

This course also focuses on keeping the RAC foundation, Oracle Clusterware, healthy and stable. You’ll learn how the key components work together and how to use commands like crsctl and ocrcheck to check for problems. We’ll cover what to do when a node fails or resources go offline, and how to read logs and find the root of the issue. You’ll finish the course with the tools and confidence to handle everyday challenges in a RAC setup.

What’s included

FAQs

With live labs and expert guidance, this hands-on Oracle RAC course is ideal for experienced DBAs looking to boost their skills in clustered database environments using Grid Infrastructure.

Do I need RAC experience to take this course?

No previous RAC experience is needed. As long as you have a good understanding of Oracle database administration and feel confident using Linux, you’ll likely have the correct knowledge base. The course starts with the essentials and builds up to advanced topics, with hands-on labs to help reinforce your learning.

Is this course suitable for DBAs working in live production environments?

Yes. The course is specifically designed to be practical and relevant for production use. You’ll learn how to install, configure and manage Oracle RAC systems in a way that mirrors the demands of real IT environments. By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge to improve uptime, performance and resilience.

What tools will I be using during the course?

You’ll be working with core Oracle tools used in RAC administration, including DBCA, RMAN, asmca, srvctl and Enterprise Manager. You’ll also work directly with ASM and Clusterware tools, helping you build confidence with the full Oracle RAC toolkit.

Will I learn how to convert a single-instance database to RAC?

Yes. We cover the process using Oracle DBCA, including post-conversion tasks to ensure performance and stability in a clustered setup.

Is ASM covered in detail?

Yes. You’ll explore Automatic Storage Management (ASM) architecture, disk group creation, maintenance tasks, and performance tuning to optimise clustered storage.
