Report: Realising the value of AI in IT and project delivery

A survey of 600 IT and project leaders in UK organisations with 500+ employees reveals four priorities for 2026: increasing efficiency, maintaining quality, accelerating digital transformation, and improving data management and security.

Delivering them depends on organisational capability, which is under growing pressure. Economic uncertainty is slowing investment, while talent shortages and widening skills gaps are making transformation harder to sustain.

Strategic alignment is another concern. Transformation initiatives are misaligned with business priorities in 49% of organisations, while change management remains a ‘nice-to-have’ for almost half.

Technology challenges compound the problem. Legacy vulnerabilities affect 58% of businesses, 51% struggle with unmanageable data volumes, and technical debt is poorly understood outside IT in 60%. AI is adding further complexity: generative AI is already used day to day across 42% of teams, yet governance is struggling to keep pace.

Skills matter too. Cyber security, quality assurance and data analysis are priorities for 80% of businesses, alongside analytical thinking, problem solving and critical thinking.
