About the course

This course is designed to provide you with a broad understanding of what a programme is and how they are controlled.


The course will take approximately four to five hours to complete.

  • The PESTLE drivers for change and how programmes operate in a VUCA environment

  • The relationship between a vision statement and high-level design
  • The four main parts of the high-level design (POTI)
  • The importance of the high-level design not being too detailed
  • The concept of a benefit and disbenefit
  • The four main ‘DOAM’ tests of a benefit
  • A typical benefit cycle consisting of “Identify, Plan, Realize and Review”
  • The importance of transition to benefit realisation, and consider how reviewing benefits is critical
  • The different planning levels and the concept of a tranche within our programme plan, a programme business case and the additional costs at programme level over project costs
  • The main programme management roles and who appoints them
  • The importance of stakeholder engagement and outline a typical cycle for stakeholder engagement
  • The concept of the control framework for a programme in the form of its strategies
