Position: Skills Tutor – Project Management

Reports to: Programme Development Manager

Location: Home-based (probably south of England) with regular national travel

Salary: Competitive, plus benefits

Purpose of the role

To take total ownership of project management apprentices’ progress through their learning programme; ensuring that they receive assessment, structured learning, mentoring, coaching and EPA preparation. The Skills Tutor will also be required to enrol new learners on to learning programmes with the company, so as to maintain operational effectiveness.


You will be responsible for:

  • Contacting employers and learners to arrange suitable times for enrolment
  • Conducting the initial assessment of learners, including additional learning and social needs, and completion of associated paperwork (endorsements and sign up paperwork)
  • Holding learner inductions and completing the associated paperwork
  • Carrying out regular learner reviews to ensure that learners have SMART targets and are progressing with their programmes
  • Conducting learner assessments
  • Deliver functional skills to learners (where necessary)
  • Providing support to learners remotely and on-site
  • Maintaining regular contact with learners and employers
  • All administrative work associated with the apprenticeship learning programmes that the company delivers, such as completing learner documentation that is required as part of funding compliance
  • Ensuring that monthly targets are achieved
  • Performing any other duties relating to the Skills Tutor role
  • Liaising with ILX Group to ensure that the project management qualification is effectively delivered and that learners progress
  • Reporting and providing feedback on learners’ progress via relevant IT systems, including e-portfolio
  • Liaising with outside agencies with regard to learners within your area of responsibility
  • Ensuring that you are up to date with ESFA funding rules
  • The quality assurance of all administrative documentation in your area of responsibility to an auditable standard with the awarding body and SFA, in conjunction with the Group Head of Quality

Required Skills

We are looking for a highly organised individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and high-pressure (at times) environment. You will need to have the following background and skills:

  • Experience of assessing and/or teaching in the area of work-based learning
  • Qualified project manager (level 5 minimum)
  • Minimum of key skills level 2 – literacy and numeracy
  • Knowledge of the eligibility criteria for funded apprenticeship training programmes
  • Knowledge of delivering SFA-funded programmes
  • Safeguarding

You’ll be expected to travel to different sites, depending on the need of the client organisation, and there may be times when you will need to provide support to learners outside of standard working hours.
