Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) is a globally recognised methodology for programme management, that comprises of a set of principles and processes for best practice. The MSP qualification is designed to be tailorable to programmes of varying sizes and across different sectors.
A programme is made up of a specific set of projects identified by an organisation that together will deliver a defined objective, or set of objectives. These strategic objectives aim to help an organisation achieve benefits and improve business operations.
There is a close link between programme and project management, as a programme is made up of multiple connected projects. As such, if an individual project fails this will have an impact on the wider programme.
In other words, without programme management projects may deliver their desired outcomes, but these will not be co-ordinated or integrated into the realisation of a strategic business goal.
The seven principles in MSP serve as the guidelines for effective programme management, providing a framework for delivering transformational change.
The seven processes provide a structured approach to programme management, ensuring that the programme lifecycle is carefully planned, executed and monitored.
The seven themes provide essential governance and control mechanisms, that ensure the programme is aligned with organisational strategy, managed effectively, and capable of delivering its intended benefits.
