About the course

Project Planning & Control supports the publication of the APM's guide, ‘Planning, Scheduling, Monitoring and Control – The Practical Project Management of Time, Cost and Risk.’ It provides guidance and best practice for project planning and control and is applicable across all industries and sectors.

A successful Practitioner candidate will have demonstrated that they have achieved sufficient understanding of the theory and application of the tools and techniques to allow them to work successfully in a Project Support team environment.

What is virtual classroom training?

ILX’s virtual instructor-led training combines the personal teaching experience of a classroom, with the ease and flexibility of a virtual environment. Our virtual courses are interactive and engaging, allowing participants to communicate with both the instructor and each other in a collaborative manner.

Duration

This is an intensive two-day course that prepares you for the PPC Practitioner examination. The training is conducted via a virtual training environment. You need to ensure that you can satisfy the technical requirements that can be found on our website here.

This course covers the following modules:

  • Project definition
  • Breakdown structures
  • Schedules
  • Critical path analysis & constraints
  • Estimating & resourcing
  • Baselines and performance reporting
  • Earned value management (EVM)
  • Risk management

This is an intensive two-day course that includes the following:

  • All accompanying course material (digital)
  • The cost of the Practitioner examination (must be taken online via remote proctor within 12 months of purchase)

Important: Please note you will require a copy of the “The Planning, Scheduling, Monitoring and Control – The Practical Project Management of Time, Cost and Risk” manual for the course and exam. This is not included in the cost of the course. Should you wish to purchase the manual you can add it to your shopping cart once you have selected your chosen date. 

Materials

Digital ILX course materials: These will be accessible via the ILX portal. Full instructions with a link to the portal will be issued at point of purchase. The course materials will be provided in a PDF format and available for download. 

HOW YOU TAKE YOUR EXAM

The Practitioner exam is taken online via remote proctor. Two weeks prior to course commencement ILX will arrange for an exam voucher to be issued. You then have a choice you can either:

  • Book a suitable time after your virtual classroom event has finished to undertake your exam

OR

  • We currently allocate exam time within the virtual classroom event. So that you can book directly, we will advise you of recommended exam timings as part of the candidate guidance — this is issued three weeks prior to course commencement

Note: You are responsible for booking your own exam.

Exam format

Practitioner exam:

  • Complex multiple choice
  • 8 question paper with 10 marks available per question
  • 40 marks required to pass (out of 80 available) – 50%
  • 200 minute (3 hrs 20 mins) duration
  • Open-book (Project Planning & Control guide only)

It is recommended that a Practitioner candidate has a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a planning and monitoring role. In addition, you must have passed the PPC Foundation exam prior to undertaking the Practitioner examination.

Pre-course

There is mandatory pre-course work that must be under taken prior to attending this course. It is expected that it will take approximately one hour to complete. In addition, whilst attending the course there will also be some exam preparation evening work.
