Prerequisites

Candidates must meet PMI eligibility requirements relating to education, project experience and 35 hours of project management training – full details in the FAQs.

Exam information

The four-hour exam includes 180 questions and 10 unscored pre-test questions with scenario-based and interactive question formats.

Optional extras

PMBoK Guide – 8th Edition available as an optional purchase with eLearning study option (comes as standard with classroom and live virtual classroom)

There is mandatory pre-course work is required for the instructor-led training as well as some evening work.

What are the prerequisites for the PMP course and certification?

There are no formal prerequisites for attending the course itself, but you must meet PMI's eligibility requirements before you can apply to sit the PMP certification exam. These combine your level of education with your project management experience.

To be eligible, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Secondary school qualification (such as GCSE/A Level equivalent or high school diploma) plus at least 60 months (5 years) of non-overlapping experience leading projects within the last 10 years.
  • Associate degree, higher certificate or equivalent qualification plus at least 48 months (4 years) of project leadership experience within the last 10 years.
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) plus at least 36 months (3 years) of project leadership experience within the last 10 years.
  • A bachelor's or postgraduate degree from a PMI Global Accreditation Center (GAC) accredited programme plus at least 24 months (2 years) of project leadership experience within the last 10 years.

You'll also need 35 hours of formal project management education, which this course provides upon successful completion. If you already hold an active CAPM® certification, PMI waives this 35-hour training requirement.

How many training hours does this course provide?

Completing this course provides the 35 contact hours of project management education required by PMI as part of the PMP application process, helping you satisfy an essential eligibility requirement.

Does PMP cover Agile project management?

Yes. The updated PMP syllabus covers predictive, agile and hybrid delivery approaches. Approximately 60% of the examination focuses on agile and hybrid methods, reflecting modern project environments.

What topics are covered on the PMP course?

The course covers three key domains: People, Process and Business Environment. Topics include stakeholder engagement, project planning, governance, risk management, quality, communication, value delivery and organisational change.

What are the criteria you need to meet to obtain an ILX completion certificate?

All aspects of the course must be completed.

Elearnng: Complete all modules of the elearning in full, exceeding the 35 hrs study time and pass the exam simulator.

Instructor led training: Complete all elements of the course including pre-course, full attendance in class and homework.
