The Certified Business Analysis Professional course is offered by Simplilearn, a partner of ILX Group.

The CBAP exam is not included in this course.

Before you can sit the CBAP exam, you will need to meet all the formal prerequisites and then register for the exam with the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA), the accrediting body for this qualification, via their website: https://www.iiba.org/certification/core-business-analysis-certifications/CBAP/ 

The exam is computer-based and must be taken at a Prometric test centre. To gain entry to the test centre and your exam, your IIBA profile name must match your government identification.

Do I need to apply for IIBA membership?

  • No, it's not mandatory to be an IIBA member to apply for certification.
  • However, you get to enjoy many benefits if you become an IIBA member. For example, you get to pay lower exam fees ($325 ) compared to non-members who end up paying $450.

Does the certification exam have a pass mark?

  • Although IIBA does not offer a specific mark required to pass the exam, candidates are expected to correctly get more than 70% of the questions.
  • Candidates get a notification (whether they passed the exam or not) immediately after submitting their exam. Additional information is provided to those who do not meet the pass mark. 

Who qualifies as a reference?

  • Any references you enter into your application must meet the following requirements:
    • One of the references must be a current contact.
    • Any reference you choose as your career manager must be responsible for handling your performance measures.
    • References must have known applicants for more than 6 months. 

Exam format

The CBAP exam is formulated from the body of knowledge in the BABOK® Guide, and the format is as follows:

  • 3.5 hours in duration
  • 120 multiple-choice questions based on scenarios and case studies

This course is best suited for business analysis professionals with seven to ten years of experience, senior analysis professionals, and project managers.

It’s also suitable for professionals working in:

  • Business analysis
  • Requirements analysis or management
  • Systems analysis
  • Process improvement
  • Consulting

Note: The exam is not included in this course.

To apply for the CBAP certification exam independently you need to fulfil certain criteria:

  • At least 7,500 hours of hands-on business analysis work experience in the last 10 years — this must include at least 900 hours in four of the six BABOK® Guide knowledge areas
  • A minimum of 35 hours of professional development in the past four years
  • Two references from a career manager, client or certified business analysis professional 
  • A signed Code of Conduct
