Introduction to Financial Statements: 1.5 - 2 Hours
Understand the purpose and nature of the three key financial statements, Profit and Loss Account, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow and the accounting principles on which they are based. Understand how they reflect individual business transactions and their role in controlling and measuring business performance.
Profit and Loss Account: 1.5 Hours
Understand the structure and elements of a Profit and Loss Account. Learn how to differentiate between the different costs, expenses and other deductions affecting the overall profit of a business and specific operating decisions. Be able to construct a Profit and Loss Account with your own figures.
Balance Sheet: 2 - 2.5 Hours
Understand the nature of a balance sheet and what it tells you about the financial makeup of a business. Learn the meaning of the classification of assets and liabilities and the concept of working capital. Be able to format the balance sheet to analyse performance and improve decisions.
Cash Flow: 2 - 2.5 Hours
Understand the vital importance of managing cash in a business and how cash differs from profit. Learn to differentiate between the sources of cash and focus on operating decisions that improve cash flow. Be able to calculate cash flow from your company’s financial statements.
Costing Decisions: 2 - 2.5 Hours
Understand the meaning of fixed vs. variable costs and the calculation of contribution margin and break even analysis. Be able to use these analytic concepts in support of product selection, production and pricing decisions.
Introduction to Financial Analysis: 0.5 Hours
Understand the value of financial analysis in guiding management decisions. Learn by example how ratios can be used to diagnose and improve operating performance.
Investment Appraisal: 2.5 - 3 Hours
Understand how to apply several techniques for analysing the financial impact or feasibility of projects involving large capital expenditures based on cash flow and the time value of money. Apply sensitivity analysis to refine these decisions and measure risk.
Profit Margin: 1.5 - 2 Hours
Understand the calculation of profit margin and its relevance to benchmarking performance in different industries. Be able to use profit margin and profitability ratios to improve the ability to choose among alternative courses of action.
Asset Turnover: 2 - 2.5 Hours
Understand the concept and calculation of asset turnover. Learn how to apply working capital and fixed asset ratios to analyse performance trends and identify opportunities for improvement. Be able to calculate and analyse asset turnover using your own company data.
Return on Capital Employed: 2.5 - 3 Hours
Understand why and how ROCE is the integrated measure of operating performance for a business. Learn how to apply ROCE analysis to specific business situations. Use the ROCE flow chart model to analyse a specific business situation in your own business.
