Our Approach to Training
Participation and enjoyment – the keys to learning
In our experience, effective training is varied training. We challenge delegates through the use of practical work with great emphasis placed upon:
- Case studies and exercises – contemporary, meaningful, practical, realistic, relevant, slow-burn and speedy resolution
We find particularly effective the use of continuous development case studies through which delegates can explore many aspects of the training programme by continually returning to the same central themes. Not only do delegates gain a high sense of achievement from exploring key ideas in detail, they also gain a true insight into how a subject translates to real situations in the workplace.
Ongoing support comes in the form of:
- Pre-course testing and assessment
- Extra tuition for high and low achievers
- Up-to-date, relevant and tailored materials – both hard copy and electronic
- Extensive post course reviews, including marked assignments where relevant
- Email and telephone helplines
Before and After Care
Although the training event is central to the process, there is a clear need for efficient logistics and support before and after the training.
We will fulfil all your expectations in this regard. In addition, we offer specific support…
For training managers
We will do whatever you require and more, whether it is organising pre-course delegate selection and assessment, working on delivery with in-house co-presenters or full post-course reviews on individual delegates. Some clients even have CTG staff embedded within their training departments to ensure seamless liaison and priority booking for large, company-wide programmes.
For your department
If you are organising training for your own department, you may want to make use of our experience in assessing training needs. As well as designing programmes and tailoring case studies we can ensure that you and your colleagues benefit from the leading-edge developments in your field. We are also able to help you make your business case for the training by demonstrating the benefits that other organisations have derived from similar training programmes.
Teaching Methodology
Our "house style" is a very important constituent of our success and is reflected in our selection, preparation and monitoring of our tutor faculty.
ILX Group’s “house style” is based on widely accepted and established principles of adult learning, specifically:
- Adults are “task focused”, i.e. they concentrate better when actively doing
- Adults learn best when problem solving
- People are (generally) social and competitive, they prefer working with people rather than alone and they like competing
- Repetition and reinforcement are required in order for people to retain newly acquired knowledge.
Central to ILX Group’s philosophy is that “training” must be practical and real world and deliver useable relevant job related skills.
As a consequence ILX Group’s class-room training is designed around real-world case studies, exercises and group work which force delegates to think about the material presented and assimilate it and to help them learn from each other. The market nostrum is “interactive”, but in reality the keyword is “active”. Some “talk and chalk” and use of PowerPoint is inevitable to transfer knowledge, but this is only the first stage of the learning (as opposed to teaching) process. This is where elearning also comes in as an effective learn-by-doing tool for pre-course preparation. When all participants are brought to a common level of understanding, the classroom experience can go faster and deeper into practical application. Rather than lecturing, the development of principles and ideas will be carried out through questioning and discussing with delegates, with the aim always in mind of developing a commercial understanding of an issue rather than merely transferring facts.
The ILX Group Blended Approach
The primary objective of the blended learning solution is to provide a quality learning experience that will fully achieve all program objectives.

The ILX Group’s blended learning approach includes the integration of online assessment and learning programs with fully integrated classroom sessions which can be conducted by ILX Group’s own classroom provision or the customers existing classroom provider.
The solution can also be delivered in a multi-lingual format as required.
This instruction is then followed up by related e-learning study materials designed to facilitate an initial competency assessment, to provide effective pre-course preparation, to ensure that retention is maintained and that the learning has the best chance of being successfully applied.
