West Middlesex University Hospital Puts Trust in ILX E-Learning

West Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a major acute hospital that provides a full range of services to residents of the London Boroughs of Hounslow, Richmond & Twickenham.  As a teaching hospital, West Middlesex has always understood the need to support its employees in their personal development, whether through clinical qualifications or otherwise. 

The Information Management & IT department identified the need to improve project management skills across the team and sought to investigate the most cost effective means of achieving this.  After a period of careful consideration, it was decided that a course of e-learning provided the most economical and efficient means of training employees.

In June 2006, the hospital appointed the ILX Group to provide the PRINCE2® Foundation course to 20 employees, with a further five employees selected to take the Managing Successful Programmes (MSP™) course.

The PRINCE2® interactive multimedia course gave the team an introduction to key aspects of project management by examining the processes, components and techniques of successful project management.  The course also gave practical tips as well as real case studies of projects - so those taking the course could see first hand the practical issues involved in setting up a PRINCE2® project.  Delivered in an easy to use and convenient format, the course delivered the equivalent of a three day face to face workshop.  

Those taking the interactive multimedia MSP course benefited from a blended learning solution in which the CD-ROMs were supported by trainers who were available to answer any questions that arose.  The course, which involves multimedia learning, workshops and paper based exercises, offers full MSP certification to those who pass.  A further three day instructor led workshop is then available to candidates wanting to step up to the intermediate and practitioner levels.

“By offering employees such accredited courses we can cost effectively deliver a comprehensive training programme and hopefully go some way to achieving our ambition of becoming a first class community hospital that provides high quality care in every way.”

On completion of the multimedia courses, the team at West Middlesex booked an examination date by linking with the ILX Group’s public schedule of exams.  Alternatively, there is the opportunity to arrange for the internationally accredited exams to be taken on an organisations own premises.
